Chembra Peak – Tourist Trekking Place in Wayanad
Highlights
Chembra Peak is one of the highest and largest peak in the Western Ghats, at about 2,100 m (6,890 ft) above sea level. Chembra is located near Meppadi Town to the south of Kalpetta. It is part of the Wayanad hill ranges in the Western Ghats, adjoining the Nilgiri Hills in Tamil Nadu and Vellarimala in Kozhikode district.
Chembra Peak Trekking:
If you're a trekking enthusiast, then Chembra peak is a must-visit in Wayanad for you. One can reach the forest office(Base Station) at Chembra, from there the entry pass has to be taken to trek the mountain.
Guide services can be availed, which might be very useful. The trek to the top usually takes 2 hours, you can rest at the peak for around 45mins and the return takes 1hr. Total trekking time will be maximum 4hrs. One can see almost the whole of Wayanad from the top of Chembra Peak.
Entry is restricted to first 200 persons per day and tickets costs Rs.750 for a group of 10 people. So try to reach the base camp as early as possible and form a group of 10 with other trekkers.

Best time to visit Chembra Peak: Best time to visit Chembra Peak is during the months of June to January.
Chembra Peak Stay/Camping:
Unfortunately, there are no camping packages available on the top of Chembra peak and there are no forest guest houses(by KFDC) here. So the best option to stay here is to look for any homestay nearby and enjoy the trekking programme.
How to Reach Chembra Peak:
Route: Wayanad - Kalpetta - Meppadi - Chembra
Reach Meppadi Town, which is nearby Kalpetta, Wayanad. From there you can hire a Jeep or take a bus to reach the base station at Chembra.
Meppadi to Chembra base station is about 13km.
Important Points:
- Entry is limited (200 tickets Only), Try to reach Early
- Rs.750 entry ticket up to 10 people, Form Groups and Save Money
- Hire a Jeep From Meppadi (Rs.800). The road won't be that good.
- You can have breakfast near the trekking ticket counter.
- Wear good trekking shoes and dress.
- Carry Water Bottles as per you need and avoid unnecessary items
- Be Careful near the heart-shaped lake, there is no railing in the edge.
