By taking tourists along they not only interpret the values of Periyar and enhance the visitor experience but also add to the protection of the park and earn a livelihood out of it. Hence, when a visitor joins in all these programmes, he/she is directly contributing to the cause of conservation and community welfare.

Bamboo Rafting - a unique voyage across the Periyar Lake - Full Day

A dawn to dusk hiking and rafting programme which we can spot the Famous Periyar Lake and covers the richest part of the forest in Periyar Tiger Reserve that starts from the Boat Landing by 8 am and ends by 5 pm at Boat landing in which the guest is accompanied by an Armed Forest Guard and 6 Guides.
This programme is provided with Food and One litre of water. The programme is about 10km of walking and 3-4 hour rafting in the Periyar Lake in which the guest can enjoy a rich part of the forest. The timing of this trek is from 8 am to 5 pm in which maximum 15 persons and minimum 2 persons to run this programme.

Rules & Guidelines

  • A Minimum of 2 persons required per trek.
  • maximum 15 persons
  • Minimum rate is applicable if the number of persons is less than 2
  • Children's below 10 years are NOT allowed for this program.
  • Kindly report 15 minutes before the commencement of the program.
  • Park Entry Fees & bus charges will be extra.
  • Its mandatory to wear life jackets during the rafting.
  • This Programme is not available for online Booking.
  • The amenities include Breakfast, Lunch & Drinking Water.
  • Leech socks & Life jackets are included in the package.

Thekkady is well connected to major cities by road. The nearest town is Kumily, which is just 4 km from Thekkady. The nearest railway station is at Kottayam which is 114 km from Thekkady. The nearest airport is at Madurai in Tamil Nadu, about 136 km from Thekkady. The Nedumbassery airport in Kochi is about 190 km away.

The Periyar Foundation was formed in 2004 for supporting tiger conservation and allied activities of the reserve. It was re-established to Periyar Tiger Conservation Foundation in 2010 as per the guidelines of the National Tiger Conservation Authority.
