Mussoorie is a hill station situated in Dehradun district, Uttarakhand. Mussoorie is about 35 kilometers from Dehradun and about 290 km north of New Delhi. Mussoorie is situated at an average altitude of 1,880 meters (6,170 ft) from sea level. To the northeast side of Mussorie you can see the Himalayan ranges, and to the southern side you will see the Doon Valley and Shiwalik ranges.
Mussoorie is popularly known as The Queen of the Hills and attracts visitors from whole over India. The best time to visit Mussoorie is during the month of June. While winter and summer season give you unique experience with the glimpse of the nature.
1. Gun Hill Point:
Gun Hill is the second highest view point of Mussoorie. It is situated at an altitude of 2,024m (6,640 ft). You could take the cable car ride to the top of this place or could walk up hill and reach the view point here. The cable car may charge around 125rs for the round trip. There are a bunch of shops there which include eateries and gaming places like shooting and other caravel games.
Gun Hill is the favorite place for viewing picturesque Himalayan range and Doon Valley. One can view the 360° view of the surroundings from here.
2. Kempty Falls
Kemply Falls is about 15 km from Mussoorie along Kempty Fall Road. This place is nearly 1,364 m (4,475 ft) above sea level and is on the hilly tracks of Uttarakhand. The name of this waterfall is derived from the word ‘camp-tea’, as this area was used for tea production during the British colonial era. This waterfall is also a popular swimming and fishing destination in Mussoorie.
You need to get down a bit to reach this falls. Cable car are also available near the waterfalls which may charge a minimal cost of Rs 125/- for a round trip.
3. Mussoorie Lake
Mussoorie Lake is a man made lake built by City Board and Mussoorie Dehradun Development Authority. The surroundings of the lake include the mesmerizing views of Doon Valley and the verdant hills of Mussoorie. The lake is open all days of the year for public and there is a nominal entry fees here. Mussoorie Lake have pedaled boats to enjoy the calmness of the lovely lake and added as a perfect picnic spot for family and couples. The lake is at heights of the mountains and you can see a good sceneric view of the mountains and valley from this lake
4. Benog Wildlife Sanctuary
Benog Wildlife Sanctuary is one of the top tourist destinations in Mussoorie and is situated at about 11 kms from Mussoorie. Vinog Mountain Quail Sanctuary is the another popular name for Benog Wildlife Sanctuary . This beautiful sanctuary was established in the year 1993. Spreading over an area of 339 hectares, this sanctuary is a heaven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts.
This place is known for rare species of birds that habitats in its area. The sanctuary contains several species of rare birds an few of them are Red Billed Blue Magpie, White Capped Water Redstart etc.
The sanctuary can be reached by public transport or by hiring a taxi that are available from Dehradun and Mussoorie. This sanctuary can also be reached by a 3-4 km uphill trek from Cloud’s End.
5. Company Garden:
Company Garden is a botanical garden located at about 3 km from Mussoorie. It is also known as “Municipal Garden” or “Company Bagh”and is visited by tourists round the year. Company Garden hosts a variety of endangered species of petals. The park consists of a play are and an amusement park also.
