Himalayan Mountaineering Institute was set up in 1954 and is located at a very picturesque location offering the morning view of Mt. Kanchenjunga (8,512m) where the first sunrays fall on its peak, giving it a golden tinge.

HMI has the oldest mountaineering museum of the country which was established in 1957. it serves as a center of educational research on mountaineering activities both for trainees and research scholars, it has a rich collection of models, paintings, sculptures, photographs, manuscripts, autographs, books and mountaineering equipment belonging to famous mountaineers.

Established in 2013, the National Institute of Mountaineering and Allied Sports operates under the control and superintendence of the ministry of defense, Government of India and is the first national institute authorized to conduct land aero and aqua courses.

Spread over an area of 60 acres, NIMAS is located in the West Kameng district of Arunachal Pradesh. Situated on a hill that is at a height between 7000 and 8000 feet, the institute overlooks the town of Dirang and the Sela Pass and boasts of wonderful scenery all around.

Initially, it was started as a Project named Gulmarg Winter Sports Project (GWSP) in order to develop Gulmarg as Ski resorts of international standard. Now it has grown into a full-fledged adventure Institute that conducts various adventure courses and exciting corporate activities.

06Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute (PNSMTI)

Pandit Nain Singh Surveyor Mountaineering Training Institute (PNSMTI) is a newly established mountaineering institute situated at an altitude of 2,200m in Munsiyari that is located in the Pithoragarh district of Uttarakhand. PNSMTI is the second premier mountaineering institute of Uttarakhand after Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM), Uttarkashi. The institute is named after the great surveyor Pandit Nain Singh Rawat who played a major role in the Great Trigonometrical Survey (GTS) in the mid-nineteenth century.

The institute has already started inviting applications for adventure courses, skiing courses and will soon start mountaineering courses as well. Courses are designed on the pattern of Nehru Institute of Mountaineering to follow and maintain the training standards that are highly required for an organization to nurture.
