Munnar: For the first time in the state, a public carrier is arranging an air-conditioned bus which can accommodate 16 persons at a time for visitors to the tourist spot. The interiors of the bus are designed on the model of a train’s sleeper coach. Mobile charging points would also be provided. Though the KSRTC is yet to decide on the tariff, it is expected to be reasonable.
The bus would be parked at the KSRTC’s Munnar depot and guests spending the night in the bus can use the washrooms there. It was KSRTC’s Managing Director Biju Prabhakar who proposed the idea of converting a bus belonging to the corporation into an accommodation facility to provide stay options at reasonable rates at tourist destinations.
“Travellers will be allowed to stay in the bus as soon as the tourism sector in Munnar is opened after the pandemic-induced lockdown,” said inspector in-charge of Munnar depot Xavi George. KSRTC had earlier turned buses at its various depots into restrooms for staff on duty.
