Madammakulam Waterfalls is a pond under a gushing waterfall surrounded by green meadows. Madammakulam Waterfalls is one of the less known destinations in Idukki, Kerala and is about 8km from Kuttikanam, Idukki.

It is said that during British Period- Madam Robinson, a British planter’s wife, and her buddies went galloping on horseback to frolic into a pond, under a gushing waterfall. And this place is later be called as Madammakulam which means ‘Madam’s pond’ (Madamma’ in Malayalam is referred to as ‘foreign lady’ in English)

Kuttikanam, the gateway to the hills of Peermade is an easy drive to many unknown destinations in Idukki and Madammakulam waterfalls is one of its kind. Starting from Kuttikanam, after crossing a 1.5 km in Kuttikanam – Kattapana road, one should take left towards Ashley Estate at Ashely Bus Stop. From there the
unpaved road starts, which last for another 5-6kms. The road passes through Ashley Estate & Stagbrook Estate and leads to the mesmerizing waterfall.

Madammakulam can be accessed only by an off-road ride and of course you can give a try with your two-wheeler as many other fellow travelers do, but please bear in mind that this road may not be good for all. If you wish to rent a jeep for the ride, you can arrange one without much worries from Kuttikanam at a nominal cost.

Upon reaching, one needs to trek about 100metre through the steep walkway in order to reach the waterfall.

Just beyond the Madhamakulam waterfalls is the Irumulachipara, which consists of two boulders – is also an offbeat attraction in Idukki. The name Irumulachipara arise as because it looks like the breasts of a reposing woman who is looking up the sky. Irumulachipara offers a panoramic view of the valley and the surrounding tea plantations.

Down the Madammakulam waterfalls, you will be able to see Uppukulam reservoir, which is the start point of Manimala River.

How to reach  Madammakulam waterfalls

                By Own Transport: Starting from Kuttikanam, after crossing a 1.5 km in Kuttikanam – Kattapana road, one should take left towards Ashley Estate at Ashely Bus Stop.  From there the unpaved road starts, which last for another 5-6kms to reach Madammakulam. One can ask for a jeep-ride from Kuttikanam if your vehicle is not an off-roader.
               By Bus: Buses are available till Kuttikanam. But from there, you need to catch an off-roader.
